Because rotary heads, spray heads and drip systems apply water at various rates they should always be zoned separately.
Rotary sprinkler heads, like that shown on the left, are usually intended to water large areas. They are typically of the gear driven type and are installed flush with the ground. They raise above the ground throwing a stream of spray over a circular area when operating and retract when the cycle is complete.
Spray heads are typically used to water smaller lawn areas and plantings. The water is delivered through a fixed nozzle and irrigates all of the intended area at once, it does not rotate. There are a wide variety of nozzles avaialbe depending on the application.
